Kathy Chalfant Oral History
Description
Kathy Chalfant came to Santa Barbara in 1960 with her husband. After earning her degrees in Geography and Education from UCLA, she became an elementary school teacher and taught for over 30 years for the Hope School District. As a 3rd-5th grade educator, Kathy spent a great deal of time teaching state and local history, which sparked her interest in Santa Barbara’s unique past. After years of bringing her students to the Presidio for field trips, she became a museum docent in 1992 upon retirement and has volunteered with SBTHP since. Kathy has been an integral contributor to the Trust’s Education Committee and her enthusiasm and creativity for Santa Barbara history has been an inspirational learning tool for children throughout the city.
